Prairie Meadows Announces Their 2026 Racing Hall of Fame Inductees
May 13, 2026– Altoona, IA. Prairie Meadows is proud to announce their 2026 Racing Hall of Fame inductees, honoring individuals and horses who have made a lasting impact on horse racing in Iowa. The Hall of Fame event is designed to recognize and celebrate the people and horses that have helped shape racing in the region. This year’s class includes Ralph D’Amico, a former State Steward recognized for his commitment to fairness and integrity in the sport; Red Hot N Gold, owned by Ray and Peggy Shattuck; and Cainam, owned by James R. Leech. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on July 11, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Prairie Meadows.
Ralph D’Amico is being honored for his long career as a State Steward, where he played an important role in ensuring that racing was conducted fairly and with integrity. His work helped uphold the standards of the sport and earned him respect throughout the racing community.
Red Hot N Gold is campaigned by Iowa owners Ray and Peggy Shattuck. He earned more than $500,000 while competing across the Midwest and was known for his consistency and durability. He captured multiple stakes victories at Prairie Meadows and Oaklawn Park, including the Iowa Breeders’ Derby and the Hot Springs Stakes, establishing himself as a standout performer who could compete at a high level over many seasons.
Cainam, owned by James R. Leech, bred in Iowa was a stakes-placed gelding who earned steadily over multiple seasons while competing at Prairie Meadows and other regional tracks. His long career and consistent performances highlight the important role that locally based owners and breeders play in developing competitive and durable racehorses.
