September 23, 2020 – Altoona, IA. As a nonprofit organization, Prairie Meadows fulfills its mission by giving back to organizations that support arts and culture, education, economic development, and human services to the state of Iowa. In a time wrought with hardships and challenging conditions, it is more critical than ever to support this mission. Today, it is with great pride that Prairie Meadows announces its 2020 community support contributions totaling two million dollars ($2,000,000). The recipients and contributions are as follows:

  • United Way of Central Iowa – One million dollars ($1,000,000)
  • Food Bank of Iowa – Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000)
  • Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) – Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000)

“Giving back is at the core of our efforts,” said Gary Palmer, President/CEO of Prairie Meadows. “We take great pleasure in working towards ensuring that the most basic of needs can be met for central Iowans. Partnering with these organizations helps address the immediacy of these issues today, while serving as a catalyst for recovery and growth in the future,” added Palmer. “My team and I are thrilled  we are able to make this contribution despite being closed for more than three months.”

Today’s announcement will enable these organizations to better serve the communities of central Iowa faster. These contributions are being made in lieu of the traditional grant program offered by Prairie Meadows, which was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prairie Meadows’ Grant Program is set to resume accepting applications in early 2021.
