Food Bank of Iowa Mobile Pantry

Prairie Meadows awarded the Food Bank of Iowa $500,000 on September 23. With these dollars, Prairie Meadows sponsored two drive-thru perishable food pantries at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

“We at Prairie Meadows are grateful to the Food Bank of Iowa for providing food to the most vulnerable central Iowans with their drive-thru food program,” said Gary Palmer, President/CEO of Prairie Meadows. “It is wonderful to see our donation dollars at work in the community.”

32,158 pounds of food was distributed in four hours on September 29, 2020 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. On November 6, 2020, they saw 4,941 Iowans come through for their mobile food distribution. 61,172 pounds of fresh produce, chicken, and other pantry staples were given away that day. More than 60% of those individuals were first-time visitors of a Food Bank of Iowa distribution.

The Food Bank of Iowa works with more than 600 partner agencies to combat food insecurity in Iowa moving 1,000,000 pounds of food a month.
