Position: Director of Hotel Operations
Kevin McDonald joined Prairie Meadows in August 2006 as the first Director of Special Events to launch The Meadows Events and Conference Center and oversee casino entertainment and events. In February 2011 he assumed duties for the opening and operation of the property’s 168-room hotel addition.
A Des Moines native, he graduated from Valley High School and earned a scholarship to Utah State University working for their football program. He later studied sports management at the University of Iowa, and gained hands-on industry experience working as clubhouse manager for the Iowa Cubs minor league baseball team and undertaking various positions in the restaurant and hospitality industry.
In 1996, Kevin began a 10-year career with the original Arena Football League (AFL) when he joined the Minnesota Fighting Pike. He went on to become the director of operations for the Iowa Barnstormers, Chicago Rush, and Kansas City Brigade AFL franchises, eventually directing events for three ArenaBowl league championships and serving as an expansion operations consultant to the Philadelphia Soul. During that time, through AFL events production and the seizing of outside opportunities, he continued to strengthen his background in the hospitality and live entertainment industries.
Kevin’s current community involvement encompasses his church; the teaching of business curriculum to elementary school students through Junior Achievement of Central Iowa; and serving on the board of directors for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the Des Moines Area Sports Commission. He is also a member of the Greater Des Moines Business Exchange. Kevin and wife Leilani reside in Altoona with their two children, Jared and Ava.
