Prior to joining the Prairie Meadows Board in November 2012, Paul Rogness dedicated 30 years of his career working as a sales manager at Lipton Company, covering the Iowa and Nebraska regions. During this time, Paul served as president over three organizations – the Iowa Grocers’ Association (1980-81), Des Moines Grocery Manufacturers’ Association (1980), and Greater Eastside Development (2000).
Paul is a native of Minnesota, a graduate of Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.) with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He also honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict.
Paul has been active in community endeavors throughout his life. He has been involved in scouting since his early childhood, and he has served on the Boy Scouts of America Mid-Iowa Council’s executive board since 1981.
He is also a founding member of the East High Golf Classic, a non-profit organization that was formed in 1994 to be a fundraising arm for Des Moines’ East High School. This popular, annual event has attracted upward of 300 golfers and 60 sponsors.
In 2010, following his retirement from Lipton Company, Paul was named regional chair of the Prairie Meadows Vote ‘Yes’ Referendum.
Paul has been recognized numerous times by his community for outstanding work. In January 2014, Paul was named Pleasant Hill’s Citizen of the Year 2013. In addition, he is the recipient of the Boy Scouts of America, Mid-Iowa Council’s Silver Beaver Award (1995), a Council-level honor bestowed to Scouters that have made significant impact on youth through service to the Council. He is also the recipient of the East High School Service to Humanity Award (2002).
Paul is a stockholder and chairman of the board of the State Bank of Lake Park, Minnesota. He is past chairman of the board of Good Government for Pleasant Hill PAC.
Paul enjoys golfing, hunting, the Kentucky Derby, Iowa Hawkeyes football and Minnesota Vikings football.
Paul and Noreen Rogness have four children and five grandchildren.
