About PMRC

Prairie Meadows is the nation's first combination thoroughbred, quarter-horse, and standard-bred racetrack and slot machine casino (Racino). It is located in Altoona Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines. Prairie Meadows opened as a horse racing facility in 1989. Slots were added in April 1995 and table games in December of 2004.

Prairie Meadows attracts nearly 3 million guests each year who enjoy the many entertainment options we provide. Along with the seasonal racing and casino gaming, Prairie Meadows also features a full service restaurant, casual dining, free local and national musical entertainment, year-round simulcast wagering, and opportunities for group functions.

What sets Prairie Meadows apart from all but one other casino in Iowa is our status as a completely non-profit operation. Every dollar of net profits is returned to the community in the form of charitable grants and community betterment funding. Since 1995, we have provided over $312 million to improve the community and the lives of virtually every resident of central Iowa.

We now have over 1,400 employees. Each employee is important to the success of Prairie Meadows.
